Water Resources Engineering: An Overview
The Water Resources Engineering program of Busitema University is a unique undergraduate program, the only of its kind in Uganda that has the sole aim of qualifying students to deal with the arising issues in the water sector. The program provides an advanced education in water resource problems and problem-solving approaches and offers students an opportunity to conduct research in water resources engineering. The program includes areas of concentration in water quality, hydrology, mixing processes in natural systems, computational hydraulics, groundwater, modelling, and water resources planning and management. In each area, students learn existing methods and advance the state of the art. Read about Requirements and Course details.

Target Group
  • This programme targets UACE, diploma holders in Engineering and Mature entrants with the zeal of Solving water related problems using systematic and critical analysis

Employers of water engineers
  • Ministry of Water & Sewage Corporation
  • Engineering consultancies
  • Privately owned water companies
  • The Environment Agencies such as National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA)
  • International Organizations such as UN Environment Programme (UNEP)
Water engineers focus on projects relating to water management, ensuring water can be used by individuals and organisations, and that it does not cause damage. Water engineers work on projects connected with water management. This can involve ensuring that water is contained – for example, via planning flood defences – and that water is available to those who need it – for example, via designing systems to deliver water and sewerage systems to construction projects.
